Lynn Adler, Writer/Editor
Following a stint in Bangkok as an American Field Service foreign exchange student, Lynn pursued higher education in the foothills of the Tennessee Smoky Mountains, graduating from Carson-Newman College with a bachelor of arts degree. Lured from any semblance of a conventional career path, she left her alma mater with a diploma in one hand and a recording contract in the other. To this day, she blends her writing life with that of performing songwriter, and co-proprietor of Crossroads Coffeehouse & Music Co. in historic downtown Winnsboro, Texas.
Besides songwriting and singing for her supper, Lynn’s passion for hearing and telling others’ stories has made her the writer and editor of choice for many. It all started when the self-proclaimed “singing writer” landed a plum position as feature writer, hunting down human interest stories in the mountains and valleys of East Tennessee and Southwest Virginia for The Bristol Herald Courier and The Virginia-Tennessean.
From her days as special features writer at the Dallas Times Herald, to magazine editor at the Dallas World Trade Center, to advertising and marketing copywriter for EvansGroup Dallas – getting the story right and making it sing became a trademark of Lynn’s writing and editing success. Then she made the leap to fulltime freelance status - with clients ranging from award-winning design firms and ad agencies to corporations, communities and publications.
Lynn writes and edits scripts, speeches, ad campaigns, Web content, annual reports and grant proposals. Her account experience ranges from the American Heart Association to AT&T, Bank of America to Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Chase to Chuck E. Cheese, Eakin Press to EDS, Fujitsu to Frito-Lay, JCPenney to Justin Boots, LeTourneau University to Lucent Technologies, Nabisco to Nortel, On The Border to Overhead Door, RadioShack to Rosewood Hotels & Resorts, TXU to the Texas Lottery, and from Wendy’s to the World Cup Games.
For one celebrity client, Lynn wrote a motivational book for women, published by St. Martin’s Press. For another, she penned personal anecdotes for a nationally syndicated newspaper column. Lynn has written features for D Magazine, and she co-wrote the theme song for the hit PBS children's television series "Wishbone."
As editor, Lynn works with authors and publishers, getting manuscripts ready for publication - and helping them to be readable and marketable. As a musician, she writes and sings an occasional commercial. As a creative consultant, she's worked on a variety of projects from print to TV. And when speaking at writing and creative workshops, Lynn enjoys addressing the literary and musical balance of the writing life she leads.
It was in 2002 Lynn traded in her big city life in Dallas for a considerably more rural retreat in Wood County, outside the small hamlet of Winnsboro. The move coincided with the release of her solo recording of acoustically based original ballads and story songs – a CD entitled “Bird on the Wing” ( see: cdbaby.com/lynnadler ). She released a subsequent duo recording "Opposites Attract" ( see: cdbaby.com/adlerandhearne ) with partner Lindy Hearne, also her partner in Crossroads Coffeehouse & Music Co., ( see: crossroadsmusiccompany.com ) - a live music venue named after their adopted hometown of Winnsboro, originally known as "Crossroads."
Lynn writes and edits from a lakeside cabin on what she and Lindy call the "Spring Hollow Organic Song Farm" (pictured on the Home page) nestled in a hollow of the beautiful East Texas piney woods. Among her honors and awards, she is a Dallas Advertising League TOPS Gold Award recipient, a two-time NewFolk semifinalist of the Kerrville Folk Festival, and a former FFA Sweetheart.
